Job Title: Director of Gaming
Reports To: Executive Director
Department: Gaming
The Director of Gaming is responsible for overseeing all gaming-related activities at VGM CON. This role will work closely with gaming partners, developers, and internal teams to ensure a seamless and high-quality gaming experience. The ideal candidate will be a passionate gamer with strong organizational skills and a proven ability to manage and motivate teams.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Gaming Partnerships:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with gaming partners, including developers, publishers, and esports organizations.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with partners to secure their participation in VGM CON.
- Coordinate logistics and support for partner activities, such as panels, tournaments, and demos.
- Event Planning and Execution:
- Develop and implement the overall gaming strategy for VGM CON, including event scheduling, stage setups, and resource allocation.
- Oversee the planning and execution of gaming tournaments, esports competitions, and other gaming-related events.
- Work closely with the exhibitor specialist to recruit and manage indie game developers.
- Team Management:
- Recruit, and train a team of gaming volunteers.
- Assign tasks, delegate responsibilities, and monitor team performance.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to team members to foster professional growth.
- Community Engagement:
- Actively engage with the gaming community through social media and other online channels.
- Foster a positive and inclusive gaming environment at VGM CON.
- Address community concerns and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong passion for gaming and the gaming industry.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proven ability to manage and lead teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in event planning and execution.
- Knowledge of the gaming industry and current trends.
- Experience with community management and social media.
- Proficiency in relevant software, such as ticketing systems, scheduling tools, and project management software.
- The Director of Gaming is required to be onsite and on call during VGM CON.
- The Director of Gaming is expected to participate in weekly planning meetings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working at a gaming convention or esports event.
- Experience with game development or esports.
- A strong network of contacts within the gaming industry.
Compensation:
This is a volunteer position. However, they will receive a complimentary registration to VGM CON, complimentary lodging during the event, access to the staff lounge, and other additional perks.
This position requires a high level of dedication and flexibility, as it may involve irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, especially during the event. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
